In short

A senior urologist with 30+ years of experience, evaluating kidney stones from a clinic in South City 2, Gurgaon. Most stones under 6 mm pass on their own with hydration and medication; larger stones, infected stones or persistent pain are treated with laser lithotripsy or RIRS at hospital — the consultation, planning and follow-up all stay at the clinic. Honest pricing (₹1,500 for the evaluation, written estimate before any surgery), insurance accepted at the partner hospital.

Treatment Path

What to expect, step by step

Conservative-first means we don't reach for a procedure unless it's the right answer. Most kidney stones don't need surgery.

1. Diagnosis

History, examination, urinalysis and imaging — usually ultrasound, sometimes a non-contrast CT. Confirms stone size, location and any obstruction.

2. Conservative care

For smaller stones — aggressive hydration, pain control, and sometimes medication that relaxes the ureter. Many stones pass naturally over days to weeks.

3. Laser treatment

When indicated — laser lithotripsy or RIRS at hospital. Minimally invasive, no external incisions. Holmium laser fragments the stone, fragments pass naturally.

4. Recovery

Typically a one-night hospital stay, normal activity within a week. JJ stent removal (if placed) is a quick clinic procedure 1–3 weeks later.

5. Recurrence workup

Once the stone is treated, a metabolic workup identifies why your body forms stones — so we can prevent the next one with diet, hydration and sometimes medication.

6. Long-term follow-up

Annual review with imaging if you're a recurrent stone-former. Hydration coaching, diet review, periodic blood and urine work. Built into the routine, not pushed as add-ons.

Common Questions

Kidney stone questions, answered

Call +91-9910033190 if you have a question that isn't here.

How are kidney stones diagnosed?
Diagnosis usually starts with a focused history (where the pain is, when it started, any blood in urine), examination, urinalysis, and an ultrasound or non-contrast CT scan to confirm the stone, its size and its location. Dr. Anirudh will order only what genuinely changes management — no scattershot panels.
When can a kidney stone pass on its own without surgery?
Stones smaller than 5–6 mm in the lower ureter often pass with hydration, pain control and sometimes a medication that relaxes the ureter. Stones above 7 mm, stones in the upper ureter, stones causing infection, or stones in patients with a single kidney usually need active intervention. Dr. Anirudh will tell you honestly which group you fall into.
What is laser kidney stone removal (RIRS or laser lithotripsy)?
A minimally invasive procedure where a flexible scope is passed through the urinary tract (no external incision) and a holmium laser breaks the stone into fine fragments that pass naturally over the next few days. Recovery is faster than open surgery, hospital stay is usually overnight, and most patients return to normal activity within a week.
Where is the laser procedure performed?
The procedure itself is performed at the hospital where Dr. Anirudh has access to the holmium laser and full theatre setup. Pre-procedure consultation, imaging review, planning and post-procedure follow-up are all at the clinic in South City 2 — you see the same surgeon at every step.
How much does kidney stone laser treatment cost in Gurgaon?
Cost varies with stone size, number of stones, and whether stenting is needed. As a guide, expect ₹50,000–₹1,20,000 for laser stone removal at the hospital, including theatre, anaesthesia, surgeon and one-night stay. Health insurance typically reimburses this fully or partially. We give a written estimate before scheduling so there are no surprises.
Is health insurance accepted for the surgery?
Yes — most Indian health insurance policies cover laser kidney stone treatment as it is a medically necessary procedure, often with cashless arrangement at the hospital. Bring your insurance card and policy details to the consultation; the hospital billing team will help with pre-authorisation.
How long is the recovery after laser stone removal?
Most patients are discharged within 24 hours. Mild burning during urination and small stone fragments passing for a few days are normal. Heavy lifting and exercise should wait 1–2 weeks. If a JJ stent was placed, it is usually removed in a quick clinic procedure 1–3 weeks later.
Can kidney stones come back after treatment?
Yes — about 30–40% of patients form another stone within 5–10 years if the underlying cause is not addressed. After your stone is treated, Dr. Anirudh will recommend a metabolic workup (24-hour urine, blood tests) to identify why your body forms stones, then a personalised plan of hydration, dietary changes and sometimes medication.
How can I reduce my risk of forming another kidney stone?
Drink enough water that your urine is pale yellow (typically 2.5–3 litres a day in Gurgaon's climate). Reduce salt and animal protein. Increase citrus fruits (lemon water helps). Don't restrict calcium dramatically — that can paradoxically worsen stone formation. Specific dietary advice is tailored to your stone type after the metabolic workup.
I have severe pain and fever — should I go to the ER first?
Yes. Severe flank pain (the side of your lower back, between the ribs and hip) combined with fever can mean an obstructed kidney with infection, which is a urological emergency requiring drainage within hours. Go to the nearest hospital emergency department immediately. Once stable, follow-up with Dr. Anirudh for definitive treatment of the stone.

When kidney stone pain is an emergency

Severe flank pain (the side of your lower back, between the ribs and hip) or back pain combined with fever or chills means a possible obstructed kidney with infection — a urological emergency that needs hospital drainage within hours. Inability to pass urine, severe vomiting that prevents you from staying hydrated, or any loss of consciousness also need ER assessment. Call 102 or go to the nearest hospital emergency department immediately, then follow up with Dr. Anirudh once you are stable.
